"What you do for them, you do for me" -Jesus

Food Program

Haiti has been victim to disasters of many kinds. These catastrophes led to a lack of resources and an impoverished people group long before we came on the scene in Haiti.
Haiti has further plummeted into a humanitarian crisis due to the gang violence plaguing Port au Prince-- directly affecting our community there. We even see ripple effects here in southern Haiti as blocked roads and lack of available supplies has led to major hike in inflation.
When we started The Dwelling Place we had not planned on having more than snacks and clean drinking water.
However, our team of staff members came to us collectively to bring to light this crisis. The families in our programs were suffering gravely. We had a pregnant woman who was sick each day and had no access to food. A young child passed out during a program and when he came to we were able to figure out he had not had a meal in two days.
So we jumped into action and have been working to keep this severe met. Thanks to a generous donor who created a matching grant we were able to launch and now we have integrated this portion of our programs from temporary to permanent. Please see some statistics below to better understand the crisis we are battling.

Currently our food program is only funded through September 2024. We are looking to secure the last three months of the year and make sure people are fed.

  • As of April 2024 the United Nations has said that about 95,000 people had fled the Caribbean nation’s capital since early March due to a surge in violence. That is just one month and so many people.

  • The United Nations says that out of a population of about 11.6 million, some 360,000 Haitians are internally displaced and five million have been pushed into “acute hunger.”

The statistics are harrowing but we still find hope in the work we do.

Please join us in combatting this hunger crisis by either donating directly or hosting your own fundraiser to collect funds and feed the hungry bellies. You are literally an answer to someone's prayer when you do this. Imagine being so hungry you ask God to provide food and He does... let the weight of that sit for a moment.

We thank those who are currently working with us or have hosted events on our behalf. What a blessing!

  • According to the World Food Programme, 1.4 million people are facing emergency levels of hunger and need assistance to survive.

  • A total of 5.5 million Haitians need assistance, more than three million of them children. Food security remains a grave concern, with malnutrition on the rise in children and adolescents. The UN Humanitarian Coordinator in Haiti says time is running out.
